A Wedding Worthy of Aphrodite
Golden beaches, turquoise water and kilts: This was the plan for Cyprus-lovers Euan and Kimmy. But their idea, a wedding on the birth island of Aphrodite; the goddess of love, wasn’t to be...

With flights cancelled to their sunny venue, the couple had to completely reimagine their special day, just 10 weeks before! Now, they’ve given us all the deets and some glorious photographs…

“It wasn’t hard to decide where to have our wedding. Our favourite place, Cyprus, was the obvious choice. Planning our destination wedding was relaxed and fuss-free – perfect! To us, the most important thing was that our family and friends were celebrating with us.
But 12 weeks before the wedding, our flights were cancelled. It was a total surprise as our suppliers in Cyprus had been so optimistic about our big day going ahead.
Postponing wasn’t an option as we know how short and cruel life can be. We wondered if we should rebook with a different airline, risking cancellation again, or go for a local wedding. Becoming ‘Mr & Mrs’ was our focus: The destination didn’t matter.

Ten weeks before, we made our decision – we booked local and got to keep our original wedding week! Euan led the planning, secured amazing suppliers and was ready with some weeks to spare.
Waiting for the Scottish government to make the announcement about lifting restrictions, we held tight… And a fortnight before, restrictions eased! The wedding was happening!

The amazing day came, with weather worthy of Cyprus. Talk about the Olympian gods coming though! The ceremony and most of the celebrations were outside in the 25-degree sunshine, so guests could sit maskless during the ceremony then mingle. For many, it was the first time in almost 18 months they’d been to a wedding or event. It was truly great to have our family and close friends celebrating with us.

When we look back at the planning stages, our advice to couples would be to go with the flow, enjoy it, and definitely don’t compare your wedding to that of others. It might be a bumpy ride but, at the end of the day, you just need the two of you to reach the goal of getting married.

While it was hard for us to envision the wedding while planning, we knew that with such great suppliers and an amazing venue it would naturally come together. And come together it did!”
